Federal Circuit Reverses Patent Infringement Verdict Against Garlock Equipment Company
Larkin Hoffman secured a significant win for its client, Garlock Equipment Company last week. On Aug. 23, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeal reversed a Missouri District Court verdict that Garlock infringed a competitor’s patent for a rooftop safety device. Attorneys Paul R. Smith and Lauris A. Heyerdahl defended Garlock throughout trial and on appeal.
The Federal Circuit’s reversal is an important victory for Garlock Equipment because it vindicates the originality of their own patent and ensures that the company can continue to make its innovative safety products available to its customers.
"Our client did things the right way; it designed a more effective, noninfringing product-and was awarded a patent on that design," Paul Smith said. "It was important to validate those design efforts by vigorously challenged what we believed were baseless accusations of infringement. We are thrilled for Garlock that the Federal Circuit has vindicated not only its product but the design efforts of its engineers. It will be fulfilling to again have this innovative safety product available to customers."
