A national retail food chain seeking to add drive-thru lanes turned to Larkin Hoffman for support. The Larkin Hoffman team, including Julie Perrus and Bill Griffith, led by Tom Alexander, represented the retailer in obtaining land use approvals from cities and landowners for adding drive-thru lane improvements at locations in Minnesota, New York and Texas.

City Council Approves Restaurant Drive-Through Project
When Panera needed approval from the City of Eagan, Minnesota, to put in place a drive-through window at an existing restaurant location, the company turned to Larkin Hoffman for support just days before a planning commission hearing. After the commission voted unanimously to deny the necessary approvals, the Larkin Hoffman team – led by Julie Perrus with assistance from Peter Coyle, Jerry Seck, Bob Long and Yinfei Wu – contacted city staff and council members about the matter. Despite the efforts of another entity to influence changes within the development, the city approved the project during a subsequent council meeting.

2011 Legislative Update - Government Shutdown Looms
As of this update, state government is inching closer to a shutdown on July 1st. With no budget solution in place, and the Republican legislative leadership ideologically divided from the DFL Governor on a plan for the next biennium, it may seem premature to provide a report on the 2011 legislative session.
Possible Implications of a State Government Shutdown
The determination of core functions of the government is a balancing act that has been addressed most recently by the court in 2001 and 2005. In those years, under Governors Ventura and Pawlenty, a failure to resolve the state’s budget by July 1 led to brief government shutdowns. Concerns that this shutdown may last several weeks, or even several months, makes the determination of core functions even more critical.
