Larkin Hoffman legal secretary Erin Laurents was recently featured in a Minnesota Wild television story on the Woodbury Blazing Stars Special Olympics’ Team for Hockey Day Minnesota. Erin has been an active volunteer with the Woodbury Blazing Stars since 2012.

Erin Laurents’ involvement with the Woodbury Blazing Stars began as a volunteer coach for softball in June of 2012. It was such a powerful experience that she now serves as a volunteer coach for softball, poly hockey, and basketball.  She has completed numerous training courses in order to be certified as a Level 2 coach in each of those sports and this past poly hockey season, she was named Head Coach for all three of the Blazing Stars’ poly hockey teams. She also plays flag football with the Blazing Stars as a unified partner, which is a team that pairs athletes with intellectual disabilities with people without intellectual disabilities. She currently mentors two Blazing Stars’ athletes who participate in the Athlete Leadership Programs.  In November of 2013, Erin and one of those athletes completed in a Special Olympics training course and upon completion of that course became part of the first class of Special Olympics Minnesota Ambassadors. Last summer she served as a camp counselor at a week-long Special Olympics Minnesota Summer Sports Camp and also volunteered to staff Healthy Athletes booths at the Special Olympics Summer and Fall Games in 2013.  She also participates in the Polar Bear Plunge and this past year, she took “the plunge” twice to raise money for Special Olympics.
